Phases of the Moon Objective • The student will be able to describe the changes in the positions of the sun, moon, and the Earth in order to explain the cause of the phases of the moon. What are phases? • Phases-The changes in the moon’s appearance as seen from earth as it revolves around the earth. What causes phases? • It is caused by the changes in the relative positions of the moon, Earth and Sun. Because the moon revolves around the earth as the earth revolves the sun, we see the moon from different angles. On page 28 draw the following: • • • • • Sun, earth, moon from space.
