Pre-reading Brief introduction New Zealand is a country in the South Pacific(太平洋). It has over 270,000 square kilometers but it has a small population. The national bird is Kiwi (几维鸟). The capital of the country is Wellington, but the largest city is Auckland. The main language is English but Maori (毛利语) is also an official (官方的) language. There you can see the first settlers’ houses, church, and cemetery (公墓). These days Parnell has some of the best (and most expensive) restaurants, and is a pretty area.
