Friday 15th August Morning flight from London Heathrow to Tel Aviv Friday 15th August On to our Hotel in Tiberias, a few hundred yards from the Sea of Galilee Evening free! Saturday 16th August We start the day with an “orientation” multi-media presentation introducing Galilee… Saturday 16th August We start to explore Galilee more, passing Mount Tabor (a possible site of the Transfiguration) … Saturday 16th August We visit Cana (the site of Jesus’ first miracle, turning water into wine) … Saturday 16th August In Nazareth, we visit sites connected with the childhood of Jesus … The Church of the Annunciation The Church of the Well Saturday 16th August … we also visit Nazareth Village, built to show and explain life and trades in the time of Jesus. Saturday 16th August … and the Mount of the Precipice, where Jesus walked through the crowd that sought to throw him down. Sunday 17th August We begin the day viewing the 2000 year old “Jesus boat” at a nearby kibbutz … Sunday 17th August We sail across the lake on a replica of this boat, pausing on the lake for our Sunday worship… Sunday 17th August We visit Kursi on the Sea of Galilee - the site associated with the story of the “Gadarene swine” … Sunday 17th August … the recently discovered village of Bethsaida, Peter and Andrew’s home … The “Fishermen’s House” at Bethsaida Sunday 17th August … then continue to Capernaum (Jesus’ home town) … Sunday 17th August … where we see Peter’s house and the ancient synagogue. Sunday 17th August We visit Tabgha (associated with the feeding of the 5000, and one of Jesus’ resurrection appearances) Sunday 17th August We end the day with worship together on the “Mount of the Beatitudes” Monday 18th August Leaving the Galilee, we drive south to Jericho … Monday 18th August … viewing not only the excavations that date back to the time of Joshua but also sites associated with the ministry of Jesus Monday 18th August We pass through the Wadi Kelt (the valley of the shadow of death) and view St George’s Monastery Monday 18th August Approaching Jerusalem, we visit Bethany to see the tomb of Lazarus … Monday 18th August Our new hotel is within the Palestinian territory, in Bethlehem Tuesday 19th August In the morning we visit Herodion, one of Herod’s palaces … … Tuesday 19th August … then see the “Shepherds’ Fields”, and worship in one of the ancient shepherds’ caves. Tuesday 19th August The remainder of the day is free to meet local Arab Christians, visit the Bethlehem Bible College, and visit a local orphanage Wednesday 20th August Arriving in Jerusalem, we view the city from the top of the Mount of Olives … Wednesday 20th August We enter Jerusalem, seeing for the first time the Western Wall - a buttressing wall which is all that remains of the Temple … Wednesday 20th August … and explore the tunnels under the Temple Mount … Wednesday 20th August … at one point, walking on flagstones that Jesus almost certainly walked on. Wednesday 20th August We see the Southern Wall excavations – once more, walking on flagstones that Jesus almost certainly walked on. Wednesday 20th August We continue to see the excavations of David’s city Wednesday 20th August … and, for those who want, walk through Hezekiah’s tunnel … Wednesday 20th August … finishing at the Pool of Siloam. Thursday 21st August We return to the Western Wall - the buttressing wall which is all that remains of the Temple … … hopefully, seeing a Bar Mitzvah… Thursday 21st August We see the Temple Mount, now the location of the Al Aqsa mosque Thursday 21st August ….and then walk down into Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, following the route Jesus took on the first Palm Sunday … Thursday 21st August …. stopping at the Dominus Flavit church, which marks the place where Jesus wept over Jerusalem Thursday 21st August We spend some time in contemplation and worship at Gethsemane … Thursday 21st August We spend some time in contemplation and worship at Gethsemane … Thursday 21st August … and then follow the “Last path” through the Kidron valley … Thursday 21st August … and visit a possible site of Caiaphas’ house Thursday 21st August We see a possible location of the Upper Room … Thursday 21st August … and the recently discovered Burnt House – a priestly house in Jerusalem destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE Thursday 21st August In the evening, we visit the newly extended Yad Vashem Holocaust museum … Thursday 21st August … and then settle into our new hotel, just a few minutes’ walk from the old city of Jerusalem Friday 22nd August Returning to the Old City, we visit the Bethesda pool, where Jesus healed a paralysed man Friday 22nd August We see the Lithostratus (thought to be part of the courtyard from Herod’s Antonia Fortress) Friday 22nd August We follow part of the “Via Dolorosa” – remembering Jesus’ walk to the cross … Friday 22nd August We see the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - the traditional location of the crucifixion Friday 22nd August We finish the day with quiet reflection at an alternative site for Jesus’ death and resurrection … “Gordon’s Calvary” and the Garden Tomb Saturday 23rd August A day in the desert! After an early breakfast, we drive south to the desert and the fortress of Masada … Saturday 23rd August We visit Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found … Saturday 23rd August We see the oasis of Ein Gedi, associated with the story of David and Saul … Saturday 23rd August … and have the opportunity to “swim” in the Dead Sea!
