This celebrated and successful career in music and academics has been constantly paralleled by a strong commitment to social justice and activism with lyrics that unabashedly discuss issues including; self image, poverty, bullying war and injustice. With over 30 years of experience working in every level of the music industry, Mladen Alexander is a songwriter, producer, and multi‐instrumentalist who has appeared on several gold and platinum records, and who is a driving force on the artist development front. Mladen has garnered many accolades and awards along the way including 4 Juno Award Nominations. The Young Minds on Music Program is a multi disciplined rock concert/ workshop that combines music and education in an unprecedented new way. We break down down the latest neuroscience into a captivating and interactive experience where students come to understand how music inspires them, moves them emotionally and even alters their brain chemistry. Inspiring Change How Music Changed the World From 60s folk to modern Hip Hop YMM Presents a history of music as an agent of Social change. Title Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Vision statement: The primary purpose of the Social Justice Action Plan will be for all schools in the Toronto District School Board to have an opportunity to learn about local and global issues and to participate in actions that affect positive change YMM informs and inspires students to understand currents issues while motivating them to make changes in their world. Self Esteem - depression, cutting, anxiety, etc. The first symptoms of severe forms of mental illness generally appear between the ages of 14 to 15. A new partnership between TCDSB and the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario assists with early intervention for youth. The YMM Music Program was presented at the inaugural “No Health Without Mental Health” symposium in 2009 and has was invited back every year to date. YMM also appears annually at the “Voices that Challenge” youth conference in Toronto. The Audience The program is designed for youth aged 11-19, grades 7 to 12. YMM is scheduled to visit over 100 schools in 2012-2013. Title The Coalition education program is a collaboration with the Toronto Catholic District School Board's Continuing Education Department, The Music Business is a specialized and innovative course designed to provide high school students, with a talent and passion for music, an introduction to the realities and demands of pursuing a career in today's music industry. It is also intended to help students make more informed decisions about post-secondary education and other career choices in music. Turning a Passion into a Career The Young Minds Minds on Music Program began as an instrument to inspire, motivate and educate students to achieve their potential through the power of music. To this date we have appeared in front of over 10,000 students and educators and this year we will see exponential growth. Title Youth have a powerful emotional connection to music, they listen to music every day, Music effects their peer group choices, the close they wear, even the way they speak. At YMM we want to let those students know that they can find a career path in music that will allow them to channel their passion for music into productive and fulfilling careers. Many at risk youth have no idea that a career in the music industry and high school are compatible. YMM’s partnership with Coalition Education allows YMM to empower students to pursue careers in the music industry that include: marketing, branding, law, accounting, communications, technology and social media as well as the creative aspects of songwriting, recording, performing and touring.
