DRESS CODE SUMMARY The reason why we have dress code is... to create a safe and proper learning environment for all students. because the Salt Lake City School District has established a Dress Code policy that will be enforced at Horizonte Instruction and Training Center. NO HATS OR HEAD COVERING NO IMMODEST AND SUGGESTIVE CLOTHING Examples include, but are not limited to : - Halter tops or backless tops - Bare midriffs or low cut tops - Shorts and skirts must reach arms length Show off your intellect and your academic abilities instead. Dress Code Violations (You will be offered a t-shirt or to be sent home.) • Break up your clothing colors. • No dressing in all one color or in too much of one color • No athletic jerseys • No numbers on clothes and accessories • No Gang insignia on clothes, jewelry, folders or assignments • Tattoos with gang affiliation must be covered. • No belt buckles with letters or numbers • Wear properly sized clothes. Oversized clothing (pants or shirts 2 sizes or more too big) is not appropriate. • Headbands, bandanas, and other head coverings cannot be worn in the building. • • Rosary items may be kept or worn, so that they are not seen by others. • Tuck in your belt straps. Be Respectful • You will given a t-shirt to help you, if you have a dress code violation. • Return the t-shirt to a teacher at the end of the day. • Chronic dress code violations will result in a parent/guardian meeting. Other Expectations BEEPERS PAGERS CELL PHONES NEED TO BE TURNED OFF WHEN ENTERING THE SCHOOL Other Electronic Devices • i-pods and other similar electronic devices may be used only during lunchtime. • If you are seen using an electronic device during the day, it will be taken and held for you till the end of the day. No Cell Phones • If you are seen using a cell phone, a staff person will request it from you and hold it until the end of the day. • Students who continue to use their phone in the building will need a parent/guardian meeting to get their phone returned. Follow Directions • “The worst thing any student can do is not follow the directions of a staff member or teacher.” James Andersen • Students always have the right to appeal a situation with administration. Directions from Horizonte/ Highland and other Staff • If you do not agree with the direction you are being given… – 1. Be polite and follow the direction anyway, as long as it does not compromise your safety. Do not engage in an argument. – 2. Speak to your advisor about the situation. – 3. If the issue is not resolved, speak to your lead teacher. – 4. If you still need help, make an appointment and speak with a member of the Horizonte Instruction and Training Center administration. You may want to include a parent/guardian in this discussion. Be Respectful Follow Directions • Keep your folders clean. • Folders with graffiti or tagging are turned in to the school resource officer. • Folders with gang related photographs in the clear sleeves will be turned in to the school resource officer. • Assignments with graffiti will not be graded. Closed Campus • Eat your breakfast, lunch, and snacks on campus. • Maverick is not on our campus. • Get permission to go to your car. • Stairwells are only for emergency. • If you must leave school check-out with the attendance tracker, or it is considered a sluff. • Only individuals on your ER Contact list are authorized to release you from school. Have a parent/guardian regularly update this list, so that you can go home when needed. Once You Leave the Building • Should you leave the building during school yours, you may not show up at any other school or site, unless you have explicit permission from a staff member at Horizonte Instruction and Training Center. • If you have been given permission, check-in first at the office of any school building you enter in order to state your purpose and to obtain permission from on-site staff as well. Horizonte Entrance • Enter Highland from the center/east doors. • Use the stairwell directly across from this entrance. • Make a wide right-hand u-turn at the top of the stairs and travel west along E Hall. Horizonte Boundaries • Enter and exit the building through the east/center doors. Travel to E Hall using the stairs opposite this entrance. • Travel the back E Hall stairs to and from the lunchroom or Commons area. • Remain in the classroom or in the hall between E200 and E202. • Use a hall pass at all times to travel anywhere else in the building. Be on Time to Class Listen for the music •Play fighting is not permitted •Problems among students will not be tolerated. •Instigators are held responsible for problems they cause between students. Advisory Teacher • If you have any problems your 2nd period advisor will help you. • Your advisor will help you understand your transcript and create a graduation plan with you. • You advisor will call you after every third absence in addition to the tracker who will call every time you are absent. *Have a great school year *Get good grades *Prepare for the UBSCT!!!
