SAFETY RULES • Running and playing is not allowed in the Technology Lab. •Throwing any object in the Technology Lab is not allowed. •Students will only be able to use tools and machines while the Technology Teacher is in the Lab. •Students should wear clothing that protects their arms, legs, and feet from injury. •Students must pass all tool and machine tests with 100% accuracy before they are allowed to use them. BAND SAW SAFETY Tension Adjustment Knob Upper Wheel Guard Adjustable Blade Guard Lower Wheel Guard Table Draw and label the parts of the Band Saw BAND SAW SAFETY • • • • • • • Always wear safety glasses while operating the Band Saw. Ask permission before using the Band Saw. Set the blade guard 1/8 inch above the piece to be cut. Check to insure that all the safety guards are in place and working correctly. Have all cut lines clearly marked before operating the Band Saw. When cutting a tight curve, first cut relief cuts then push the work piece slowly without twisting or bending the blade. Do not cut a radius smaller than 4 times the blade width. BAND SAW SAFETY • Hold the material away from the blade before you turn on the Band Saw. • Hold the material firmly on the table while cutting on the Band Saw. • Keep your fingers away from the cut line and blade. 2 inches minimum. • Never cut material that is round. • Check all material for foreign objects before cutting. • Turn off the Band Saw when finished cutting. • Wait for the Band Saw to come to a complete stop before cleaning it. • Clean up all scraps and dust from the Band Saw before you leave it. DRILL PRESS SAFETY Safety Guard Chuck Pilot Wheel Adjustable Table Column Lower Table Draw and label the parts of the Drill Press DRILL PRESS SAFETY • • • • • • • • • • Always wear Safety Glasses when using the Drill Press. Ask permission before you use the Drill Press. Center punch all holes to be drilled. Check the drill bit – Make sure it is not bent or broken. Use the Chuck Key to tighten the drill bit in the chuck. Remove Chuck Key from the chuck before turning on Drill Press. Clamp material to the table – It should extend to left. Make all adjustments with the power turned off. Do not force the drill bit through the material you are drilling through. Remove drill bit when finished – clean up area. SCROLL SAW SAFETY Blade Tension Power Switch Blade Guard Dust Blower Table Blade Draw and label the parts of the Scroll Saw SCROLL SAW SAFETY • • • • • • • • • • Always wear Safety Glasses when using the Scroll Saw. Ask permission before you use the Scroll Saw. Clearly mark all lines to be cut. Check material to be cut for foreign objects. Turn machine on before putting material on the Scroll Saw table. Keep your fingers away from the cut line. Hold material firmly on the table. Slowly cut on the cut lines – slow down around tight curves. Turn off Scroll Saw when finished. Clean up the area after finished using the Scroll Saw. Ask permission before you use the Sander. Keep loose jewelry, sleeves, and other clothing tucked in. Make adjustments with the power off. Make sure the belt is not loose or torn. Hold the material firmly while sanding. Check the disk. Make sure it is not torn or clogged up. Use only the downward side of the disc while sanding. Do not force material against sanding surfaces. Turn sander off when finished – clean up area. LATHE SAFETY Live Center Head Stock Tool Rest Tail Stock Dead Center Draw and label the parts of the Lathe LATHE SAFETY • • • • • • • • Always wear Safety Glasses when using the Lathe. Ask permission before you use the Lathe Wear tight fitting clothing and remove jewelry. Make adjustments with the power off. Secure all material with a face plate or between centers. Set tool rest approximately 1/8” away from work piece. Make sure the cutting tool is very sharp. Check the speed before you turn on the power. Start at the slowest speed. • Do not force or jamb the cutting tool into the work piece. • Turn off the power and clean up area when finished.
