Charles Perkins By Sean , Brittney, Nick , Jacinta. • Charles Perkins was a proud Aboriginal, who was born in 16\6\1936 and died in 2000. He was a leader and activist and civil rights leader. Perkins didn’t like the way Aboriginals were being treated in Australia. So he decided to do something about it. • In 1965 Perkins decided to start a bus trip called the Freedom rides with Students all over Australia. To raise awareness and show Australian citizens what they’re doing to Aborigines. Perkins did this by travelling around NSW, with media chasing them around the East Coast. The Media were putting videos onto the news, by doing this Australian Citizens should realize what they’re doing to Aborigines, example . • No Black people allowed in the pool at the same time as the white people. Black people were not allowed at the front of a bus. • Perkins helped setup the Aboriginals tent embassy in 1972, this is now a symbol of Aboriginals , nations. To do this the Proud Aboriginal used his resilience and persistence. He was well organised to achieve this. • Perkins was the first Aboriginal to graduate University this allowed him to get a job with the government, which he was outspoken about Aboriginal issues, and to do this he had to have Resilience and confidence to speak up. • This Proud Aboriginal achieved many great things in his life all for his race of people. During his life the Aboriginal people became more recognised by Australia because of his efforts with freedom rides, tent embassy.
