TASK MASTER or TASK DOER? The Role of the Program Manager TASK MASTER or TASK DOER? When is it best to take on a leadership role and allow your coalition to be the workforce? When is it best to handle the task yourself? “No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself, or to get all the credit for doing it.” – Andrew Carnegie TASK DOER Fully understand contract requirements. Be accountable for grant funding and expenditures. Establish rapport and positive relationships within the community. TASK MASTER Share the program vision with the coalition. Know the strengths and limitation of members. Effectively delegate. At all times knows the overall plan and who should be doing what by what time. Hand over all activities which may include lobbying. "What separates those who achieve from those who do not is in direct proportion to one's ability to ask for help." - Donald Keough, former President of Coca-Cola Do’s and Don’ts of Effective Delegation Establish the parameters, conditions and terms before you delegate. Select the right person for the task. Provide enough information and resources. Give them full authority. Focus on results, not on the process. Establish deadlines and build accountability. Offer guidance without interfering. Give full credit and recognition. “Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.” – Denis Waitley WyPTAC Created by Deanna Hooper
