SUPERVOLCANO ASSESSMENT Assessment choice 1 = Write a report for the media. Imagine you are a news reporter whose job it is to report on the super-volcano eruption. You can write a newspaper front page or a script for the television news. You must include: The details of the eruption – where did it happen? what happened? How they knew the eruption was going to take place? Assessment choice 2 = Write an information sheet warning people that the eruption may take place soon. Imagine that you work for the American government and that it is your job to warn the American public that they may be in danger of experiencing a super-volcano eruption. Assessment choice 3 = Design a survival strategy. Imagine that you work for the USGS or for the government. You need to warn people how to prepare for the inevitable eruption of the super-volcano. You must include: The details of the eruption – where might it happen? Why it will happen? Causes? what might happen? The details of the eruption and the effects – how will the people and the environment suffer? You must include: 1. Draw and label a ‘dustbin’ that can contain a survival kit. What items would you include in the kit and why would you need them? Explain each item exactly. Why would each item be crucial for survival. 2.Write a short survival plan for a family. What should they do when the volcano starts to erupt? The effects of the eruption – what did it do to the people and the environment How can they prepare? How people around the world were involved in the eruption and how they helped each other How people around the world may need to be involved in the eruption and how people might need to help each other What the future holds. What the future holds. You need to think carefully about the short and long term effects of the eruption and use this to help explain your plans. Don’t forget to P.E.E. For each day write an account of what happened during the eruption. You need to talk about the run up to the eruption (what the warning signs were), what happened during the eruption, what exactly happened and what effects did it have on people and the environment?
