Emociones
Anytime what is being expressed
is an emotion about the actions of
someone else, the subjunctive is
required.
Subjuntivo con expresiones de
emoción
 This
aspect of the subjunctive differs
from what we have been talking
about.
 The information in the clause
following the verb of emotion can
and may be factual.
 If you are expressing an emotion
about someone else’s actions you
MUST use the subjunctive.
Estar triste = to be sad
Estoy triste que…
 I am sad that…
 Regardless of whether what you are sad
about is factual or not, statements of
emotion require the subjunctive in the
dependant clause.
 Estoy triste que estemos en la escuela.
 It is a fact that we are in school. But
because I am expressing an emotion (my
emotion) about this, it requires the
subjunctive.

Alegrarse de
 Me
alegro de que estemos en la clase
de español ahora.
 I am happy that we are in Spanish
class now.
 Es una lastima que no podamos
quedarnos en la clase de español
todo el día.
Tener miedo de que…
 Mi
profesora de español tiene miedo
que todos los alumnos no quieran
estar en la clase.
 Los alumnos temen que la profesora
les dé mucha tarea esta noche.
