Final Year Project (FYP) 1 Briefing for FYP 1 Specially for students of HC00 & HC05 1 Introduction The aim of the final year project is to test the student’s ability to apply the knowledge learned over the years of the course. The emphasis for final year projects may be on the development of a software product or on academic research. Topics for final year projects can, therefore, cover a wide variety of areas. 2 Introduction cont… Even though these topics cover different areas, the work involved includes: Identify a problem area (i.e. project topic) and main objectives of the project. Submit a proposal articulating clearly the aims and objectives of the project. Research and/or analyze the project area to gain an understanding of the work involved. 3 Introduction cont… Design, implement and test a solution if appropriate. Write a manual which clearly documents the project and, if appropriate, how each of the above stages were carried out. Present the project. 4 Introduction cont… Starting next semester, FYP 1 will be graded with 3 credits. Students are advised to approach lecturers to discuss about project domain and title before semester break. During semester break, start finding relevant information and preparing the project proposal. 5 Milestones Milestones for FYP 1 is as tabulated in Table 1.0 Pay attention to the tasks and the due date for completing those tasks Always refer to your supervisor for latest information and updates 6 Table 1.0: Milestones for FYP1 Week Task 1&2 Submit proposal 5 Resubmit rejected proposal (if applicable) 8 Progress report 1 to supervisor Chapter 1 & Chapter 2 12 Project 1 Report to supervisor and examiner Chapter 1 to Chapter 3 Chapter 4: Preliminary Results Gantt Chart for project 1 References 13 Project 1 presentation 15 Amended/Corrected Report to examiner Proposal Must contain Project title Introduction Project background Project objectives and scope Literature Review Methodology 8 Progress Report Chapter 1: Introduction Provides introduction to the project/ research, objectives, scope and problem background.
