First steps:
1. Attend a workshop hosted by International Educational
Advising: www.kwantlen.ca/advising/interntational
2. Make an appointment with an International Educational
Advisor for help and to show your completed paper application
or online application.

Currently, there are two options:
1. Apply online: (secure and convenient)

2. Apply using a paper application

How to apply online:
Register for a Government of Canada MyCIC electronic account at
www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-extend.asp and fill the online application form.
Scan and send the following documents: (The max. file size is 2 mb and must be in one of the
following formats: PDF, TIFF, JPG, DOC.)
1. Official letter from Kwantlen’s International Advisor. Please fill the
Study Permit Renewal Letter Request Form (yellow) this form can be
found and completed at any Admissions office.
2. Photocopies of all relevant Passport pages.
3. Photocopies of your current study permit and/or work permit
4. Proof of sufficient financial support in Canada for a one year period
(current official bank statements, proof from family members, etc.)
5. Completed fee receipt (IMM5401) OR pay by credit card online .
The current fee is $125 CAN.

How to apply with a paper application:
Download the instructions and application form at
www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-extend.asp. Include the following when mailing
your application:
1. Official letter from Kwantlen’s International Advisor. Please fill the
Study Permit Renewal Letter Request Form (yellow) this form can be found and
completed at any Admissions office.
2. Photocopies of all relevant Passport pages.
3. Photocopies of your current study permit and/or work permit
4. Proof of sufficient financial support in Canada for a one year period
(current official bank statements, proof from family members, etc.)
5. Completed fee receipt (IMM5401) OR pay by credit card online. The current fee
is $125 CAN.
6. Transcripts from your last two periods of study. Order transcripts from Admissions.
7. Completed application (IMM 1249) with your signature and
document checklist (IMM 5555).

How to apply with a paper application:
Mail the completed forms, supporting documents and fee payment receipt by
Xpresspost™ through Canada Post so you can track your shipment online.

How do I pay the $125.00 CAN fee?
1) Online payment with a credit card.
OR
2) Pay at most banks with original receipt.

When should I apply to extend my study permit?
Normally 3-4 months before expiry.
Can I study while waiting for the new study permit?
Yes but, you’ll need copies of the payment receipt
and mailing tracking number (Xpresspost™) to
show to Kwantlen.

How long will my study permit be extended?
The Advisor will consider:
- Your GPA for your successful graduation
- Number of courses required to complete

Use Xpresspost service at Canada Post. Print the online tracking as
your confirmation.
Always make photocopies for your record.

What is an appointment?
Current students seeking assistance from an International Educational Advisor are welcome to
make a 30 minute one-to-one appointment. Students are encouraged to come well-prepared to
their appointment. This includes preparing questions ahead of time and doing preliminary
research on program requirements for their chosen educational goal. To assist with preparing for
your appointment, program information may be found in our online calendar at:

How do I book an appointment?
To make an appointment with an International Educational Advisor, please visit the Student
Enrolment Services department at any campus or call 604.599.2000. Surrey appointments can
also be booked at the Surrey Counselling office.
Drop-in appointments:
Surrey and Richmond Campus Monday to Friday 11:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 2:00pm
Drop-in appointments consist of 10-minute individual appointments for students with very
specific questions. Please contact the Student Enrolment Services (604-599-2000) to find out
when our advisors are available to assist students at drop-ins (Surrey campus drop-ins can be
booked at the Surrey Counselling office.) Drop-in schedule subject to international educational
advisor availability, please confirm by calling 604.599.2000 before you come in.
