Consumer believe Worship is created for them; Consumed believe worship has its end in God alone. Consumer say, “What are we getting out of this?”; Consumed are always thinking about what they can bring. 2. Consumers focus attention and worry on style; Consumed understand worship as a point of surrender. Exalt Consumer vs. Consumed 3. Consumers look at worship as solely something to enjoy; Consumed understand it as costly. Exalt 1 Chronicles 29:10-21 10 Therefore David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: “Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Exalt Consumer vs. Consumed 1. Consumers see worship as social interaction; Consumed see it as a sacrificial relationship. 2. Consumers understand worship as something you buy; Consumed are stunned that they’ve already been bought. Exalt Consumer vs. Consumed 3. Consumers evaluate worship based on like and dislike; Consumed ask God, “How did You feel about it?” 4. Consumers exalt their preferences; Consumed exalt the One True God! Exalt Psalm 51:1-19 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! Exalt Psalm 51:1-19 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Exalt Psalm 51:1-19 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. 18 Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; Exalt Psalm 51:1-19 19 then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
