Ownership vs. Possession:
“A Lesson On Stewardship”
Stewardship Principles:
It’s possible to possess a thing (house/car) and still not own it.
We have in our possession what God’s given us
(time/talent/treasure), but “all we have” STILL BELONGS
TO GOD!
Psalms 24:1
“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world,
and they that dwell therein.”

Stewardship: is to handle what belongs to someone else.
-As Christians stewards, we are to handle or manage the
following 3 things that God has given us FOR HIS GLORY:
(1.)Time: How should a Christian a mange time?
*Everyone doesn’t live the same amount of time, but
everyone has the same amount of time (24hrs/day).
(2.)Talent: How should a Christian manage talent?
*Everyone doesn’t have the same talent, but everyone
has a talent.
(3.)Treasure: How should a Christian manage treasures?
*Everyone doesn’t have money, but everyone, has the
opportunity to make money.

How Do We Handle The “Time” God Gives Us?
Psalms 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, that we may
apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
-This Psalm deals with the eternity of God & frailty of man.
-Every human is born with the desire for eternity (Ecc.3:11)
and the desire for his or her work to count/ reflect the
permanence of God (Psalms 90:10).
*Because of this, we are to use our time with an eternal
purpose in mind.
*Question: Am I glorifying God by furthering his
kingdom with my time?

How Do We Handle The “Talent” God Gives Us?
1 Corinthians 12:7 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is
given to every man to profit withal.”
-1 Corinthians 12 is about spiritual gifts.
-According to 1 Corinthians 12:7, our gifts are for two
purposes:
(1.)To “manifest” or reveal who God is.
*God wants to show who he is through our gifts.
(2.)To benefit (to profit withal) others.
*Our gifts our to help others; NOT for us to shine.

How Do We Handle The “Treasure/$” God Gives Us?
Matthew 25:14-30
-VS.15 The master gave his “servants” money according to
their abilities.
*God gives us money according to our ability to handle it.
*Our prayer should be for more ability; NOT more money.
-VS.16-18 Two servants doubled their money and the other
servant buried his money.
*The ones who doubled their money were able to work in
the absence of the master.
*My boss shouldn’t have to look over me for me to do a
good job.

How Do We Handle The “Treasure/$” God Gives Us?
Matthew 25:14-30
-VS.19 The master returned after a long time.
*Anybody can work in the absence of the boss for a day.
*Working in the absence of the boss for a long time
requires discipline.
#Stewardship with money requires DISCIPLINE!
-VS. 20-23 Those who doubled the money were entrusted
with more.
*More requires the maximization of what we currently
have.

How Do We Handle The “Treasure/$” God Gives Us?
Matthew 25:14-30
-VS.24-25 The last man made an excuse to the master that
he buried his money which revealed his distrust with how
the master would use the money that the servant
“potentially” worked to trade.
*We do the same when we withhold our treasure because
we don’t trust the motives of the church.
-VS.26-30 The master calls the 3rd man a wicked and
slothful “SERVANT.”
*It is possible to be servants of God and still be considered
to be wicked and slothful at the same time.

How Do We Handle The “Treasure/$” God Gives Us?
Matthew 25:14-30
-VS.26-30 The master takes the money from the wicked and
slothful servant and gives it to the one who’s produced 5
more talents.
*God would rather give those who’ve got a mind to
produce “MORE,” than give “MORE” to those who fail
to maximize what they already have.
*MONEY IS TO BE INVESTED; NOT WASTED!
