MDSTA Conference 2009 Cris DeWolf Heliophysics Educator Ambassador What is AIM? NASA's Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere spacecraft was delivered into orbit from a Pegasus XL rocket. This rocket was fired from beneath a modified aircraft. AIM's three scientific instruments will study polar mesospheric clouds located at the edge of space, 50 miles above the Earth's surface in the coldest part of the planet's atmosphere QuickTime™ and a decompressor are needed to see this picture. The Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) seeks to understand how Polar Mesospheric Clouds (PMCs) form, and how they change.
