READ each of the quotes below. IDENTIFY the words
that you think have inflectional endings. EXPLAIN why
you decided on the word.

Part II: So, what? Definitions &
Examples
 DEFINITION:
Inflectional endings are
suffixes that indicate tense, plurality,
comparison or part of speech.
 Dropping
an inflectional ending
essentially drops the verb tense.
Examples: (7 min)
 Hazel
use to tuck her tail between her legs
when she hear loud noises.
 Hazel

legs when she heard loud noises.

Ellen Degeneres ask her audience members, “Is
everyone ready to do the Harlem Shake?” One
member say he brought his gorilla mask just in

Part III: Lyric Activity (10 min)

DIRECTIONS: Each table group has a sheet of song
lyrics with 10 words blacked out. You also have a
bag of words with inflectional endings.

Using context clues from the song and what you
have learned about inflectional endings, decide
which word fits in the lyric. Tape the words on top
of or beside the blacked out lyric.

Report out! As a group, share lyrics with two
different inflectional endings from the chart.
Prepare to explain why your reasoning for
choosing the words.
