REQUIREMENTS

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE
COOPERATING TEACHER

Assist intern with following proper protocol and school policies; including
communicating with parents, student discipline, make-up work policy, etc.
Support in planning, reviewing, & teaching lessons

Evaluate Electronic Evidences (Teacher Work Sample)

Check to see that intern is meeting expectations and deadlines.


Help with video taping process & review videotaped lessons/provide written
feedback on performance.

Contribute to midterm and final evaluations (CTC).

Notify the US of concerns and formulate an action plan, if necessary.

Ensure intern carries full teaching load and extracurricular
activities/duties for a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks or 50 days AND
continues in the placement until the last day of class

UNIVERSITY SUPERVISOR

Assist intern in planning, reviewing, & teaching lessons

Provide feedback to observed lessons

Respond to journal entries

Provide feedback to videotaped lesson

Establish/retain documentation of interventions

Ensure intern carries full teaching load and extracurricular activities/duties for
a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks or 50 days AND continues in the placement until
the last day of class
University Supervisor Visits
Purpose for Visit

problems must be properly

•Lesson plans should be received by US at least
three full days before all visits.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE
INTERN / STUDENT TEACHER


Submit signed health certificate during the first week of internship (before students arrive) to
the cooperating school.
Purchase professional liability insurance during internship, which is strongly encouraged for
all interns. ( Information can be obtained from the NC Association of Insurance Agents or through membership in a
professional organization (cf: Handbook, p. 31))

Meet all deadline requirements for internship assignment.

Participate in faculty meetings, parent teacher conferences, BEP and IEP meetings, etc.

Get to know the students, school /school community as soon as possible.



Failure to meet attendance requirements will result in removal from internship II. See
handbook p.30
Be a professional in every aspect; dress professionally, arrive early to school, be prepared, show
respect to everyone, have a flexible schedule, never use corporal punishment on students, never
restrain students, and keep students’ information confidential.
Remain professional with faculty, staff, and/or students while on and off school grounds
(including social media). Failure to comply will result in dismissal from the Teacher Education
Program. You will not be recommended for a license by WCU.

Required Checklist for student teaching (EDCI 695): Review the checklist for all
internship assignments. Plan the available dates for future observation during the
first meeting with CT & US.
The grading rubric for student teaching checklist.
The midterm and final evaluation form for internship II/student teaching. Midterm
needs to be approved by the CT & US before implementing. (Certification of
Teaching Capacity, EE4)
Teacher Certification interns/student teachers will have a seminar class (EDCI 695)
that meets online throughout the semester. Students are required to log into
WebCAT/Blackboard website the first night of WCU classes.

Teacher Work Sample “Pedagogical and Professional Knowledge Skills and Dispositions”
(EE3). Approved, implemented & evaluated by CT & US by mid-term.
Teacher Work Sample, “Positive Impact on Student Learning” (EE5) Completed and graded
by CT & US soon after mid-term.
WCU Individual Growth Plan Completed during internship and graded by CT &US near
the end of internship.
Teacher Leader Essay, “Leadership and Collaboration” (EE6) Completed throughout
internship and graded by CT & US by the last day of class.
Final Evaluation Certification of Teaching Capacity (EE4) Completed and graded by CT &
US during last observation.
Note: Final evaluation must be posted in Task Stream AND the original paper copy must be
submitted to OFE with signatures.

specialist Barbra Schade after you have completed your
internship II/student teaching at 828.227.2000 or
bschade@wcu.edu . Teaching licenses are not automatically given
to students that complete the program, you are required to apply
for your NC teaching license.
