The world without simple machines Do you ever wonder how simple machines can help us in our world? This story will tell of a great adventure of the simple machines Just imagine… the world without simple machines. Simple machines are machines that have few moving parts, to make work easier. Without simple machines, the world would be a disaster. Believe it or not, that has happened in our past! A long time ago, there was a group of simple machines. There was Leonard the Lever, Patrick the Pulley, Isabelle the Inclined Plane, Walter the Wedge, Samantha the Screw, Gary the Gear, Wally the Wheel, and Alan the Axle. Unfortunately, these simple machines didn’t know what they could do! Leonard the Lever can lift up heavy objects. Patrick the Pulley can lift up objects using a rope. Isabelle the Inclined makes it easier for large, heavy objects to move up or down… like a ramp. Walter the Wedge can break through almost anything! Samantha the Screw can help put large projects together. Gary the Gear helps electronic things work. Wally the Wheel and Alan the Axle help things with wheels move. In this time, there was a man named John. He was a factory worker who produced flags. John kept seeing all these weird things. When he got in his car after work, the radio said that some new objects were discovered. (they were simple machines!) “Ouch! It feels like rope burn!” Patrick the Pulley exclaimed. “Make it stop!” “Hey, boss, did you hear that? “Hear what?” John’s boss asked. “That noise it sounded like a scream.” “John, go home. You’re not making any sense and you seem very tired. Try going to your doctor.” “Thank you so much, boss.” John said with a hint of regret in his voice. When John got home, he went straight to bed. After the boss locked up, Patrick let out a muffled scream. “Hellllllppppppp!” “What was that?” Izzy the Inclined Plane asked. “Yeah, I heard it, too.” Samantha the Screw whispered “It’s okay, it’s just Patrick!” Leonard said wisely. “Thanks Leonard, you always clear it up.” Gary the Gear said shyly. The next day, Leonard the Lever told Patrick to let himself be heard. “What do you mean?” Patrick asked confused. “I mean, if you are hurt, just ask for help. Even if the workers are here.” “But what if they find me?” “They won’t I promise. You can trust me.” Leonard said with a smile. “When Mr. John uses you, how do you survive?” Patrick asked “What?” Leonard said. “I’m confused.” “I mean, does it hurt?” Patrick whispered. “No, never. Only when the load is heavy.” A couple of hours later, John and his boss came to work. When they walked in, they over heard someone talking. “There he is. I don’t think I’m ready. “That’s the problem. You’re not screwed in tight enough. “Ahhhhh! Help me! Clank! Bang! Crack! John’s boss jumped. “Uh, John, did you heat that?” The boss asked frightened. “Sorry, but you’re the only one. Why don’t you go home and get some rest.” John said. CLANK! BANG! CRACK! TICK,TOCK….. “uh john did you hear that?” John’s boss sprinted out the door. “Jeez, Samantha, you scared him.” John said to the Screw. “I’m sorry Mr. John. I thought he knew we talked.” “It’s okay!” John said with a smile. “Why are we here, Mr. John?” Samantha the Screw asked. “You’re here because you belong here!” John said excitedly. He felt like he was going to explode. How did they not know what they could do? “tomorrow I will tell my boss about you all” john said and went home. The very next day, John told his boss, George about the talking simple machines “Wow, that’s amazing. I guess we would’ve needed a strong force without them!” George said. “What does force mean?” Izzy asked. “It means physical power or strength. Speaking of forces, motion means the act or process of using a force.” Leonard said. “Thanks, Leonard. You always clear it up!” Gary said as all the others around broke out into a laugh. From this day on, George, John and all the simple machines worked together.
