John 15 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. John 15:7 What a bold statement Jesus makes, if you abide in Him you will have your prayers answered. A similar statement is made in Matthew, “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive,” and James repeats a similar guarantee, “If anyone lacks wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach.” This morning we are going to explore the source of an effective, vibrant and fruitful prayer life. • Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. • John 15:4 • Psalm 19:7-11—God’s Word is sweeter than anything this world offers 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew 6:9–13 • God’s name and His Kingdom to be exalted (Mt. 6:9-10) • The Gospel of Jesus Christ to be spread and triumph (2 Thess. 3:1; Romans 10:1; Acts 4:29; Eph. 6:18-10) • Wisdom for life’s trials (James 1:5-7) • Strengthening of the spiritual man (Ephesians 1:16, 3:16; Colossians 1:10-11) • Unity among the body of Christ (John 17:20-21) • Parasite (Definition) – an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment. • Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:4–5
