 The 18th amendment made the manufacture, sale, and
transportation of alcoholic beverages illegal.
 This caused people to rebel and create places like speakeasies
which were like secret clubs you could go drink at.

 He flew a plane from New York to Paris.
 Showed people anything is possible.

FORD MODEL A
 The launch of the Ford Model A caused a lot of excitement and
anticipation.
 The car came in a variety of different styles and was a newer better
version of the Ford Model T.
 It was the best selling car in America.

JAZZ AGE
 Lively music.
 Energetic dances that called for different outfits than before. The
dress length became shorter since it was easier to dance and move.
 People went to speakeasies which were like clubs.

MOVIES WITH SOUND
 The Jazz Singer, was the first talking picture.
 This put an end to silent movies.

 The jazz age was the most influential event for women's fashion.
There was lively music which sparked energetic dances. The dances
caused dresses to become shorter so it was easier to move around and
dance in.

CHANEL
 August 19th, 1883 – January 10th, 1971.
 She adopted the nickname Coco during a brief career as a cafe and
concert singer.
 She set up a millinery shop in Paris in 1910 and her simple hats
soon became popular.
 By the 1920s, her fashion house had expanded considerably. She
launched a perfume and also designed stage costumes for plays.

INFLUENCE
 Chanel influenced the way women dressed by replacing the corset
with comfort and casual elegance attire. Her relaxed designs, short
skirts, and casual looks were in sharp contrast to the corset fashions
popular in the previous decades. Chanel herself dressed in mannish
clothes, and adapted these more comfortable fashions which other
women also found liberating.

JEAN PATOU
 Jean Patou (1880-1936) was born in Normandy in northwestern
France.
 Patou opened a dressmaking and fur establishment that failed but
he opened up a tailoring business in Paris the following year.
 He designed sportswear along with beaded and lace embellished
garments.
 He put his "JP" monogram on his garments. He was the first
fashion designer to exploit the cachet of a well-known name.

INFLUENCE
 He liked the idea of sportswear. Originally everyone thought this
was scandalous on a women.
 He used fine lace when embellishing garment so the outfit looked
less heavy and more youthful.
