Class—Yes
The attention grabber: Class – Yes
(The brain switch that readies students for instruction)
For maximum effect, occasionally vary your tone of voice.
The 5 Classroom Rules:
Rule #1 Follow directions quickly!
Rule #2 Raise your hand for permission to speak.
Rule #3 Raise your hand for permission to leave
your seat.
Rule #4 Make smart choices!
Rule #5 Keep your dear teacher happy!
Power teachers use these same rules from Kinder through College!
Rule #1: Follow directions quickly!
(Gesture – hold up 1 finger and stab
the air quickly, then clap and slide
off right hand over left .)
(Students repeat the rule and gesture)
Rule #2: Raise your hand for permission to speak!
(Gesture – hold up 2 fingers over
your head and make a “talking”
gesture with your hand.)
(Students repeat the rule and gesture)
Rule #3: Raise your hand for permission to leave
your seat!
(Gesture – hold up 3 fingers over
your head and make a “walking”
gesture with your fingers.)
(Students repeat the rule and gesture)
Rule #4: Make smart choices!
(Gesture – hold up 4 fingers over
your head and tap your temple
with one finger thoughtfully.)
(Students repeat the rule and gesture)
Rule #5: Keep your dear teacher happy!
(Gesture – hold up 5 fingers over your
head and pat your hand over your
heart.)
(Students repeat the rule and gesture)
Decades of educational research demonstrates that
students learn the most when they teach other.

Scoreboard
The Motivator . . . The Scoreboard!
Here is a huge point.
The Scoreboard is fixed!
Never let the difference between smilies and
frownies be larger than 3 points. If you reward
too much, your students will lose motivation. If
you punish too much, they will quit trying.
The Focuser . . . Hands and Eyes
Whenever you want to make a big point,
totally focus your class, you say
“hands and eyes.”
Your class repeats “hands and eyes”, folds
their hands and stares at you.
Hands & Eyes
The Activator . . . Mirrors/Mirrors and Words
 Mirrors is one of WBT’s simplest and most powerful techniques.
 You say “mirrors” and your students respond “mirrors.”
 They then pick up their hands ready to mimic your gestures.
 You say “mirrors and words” and your students respond “mirrors and
words,” ready to mimic your gestures and repeat your words.
I’ve now taught you
Power Teaching techniques:
Class-yes
the 5 Rules
Teach-Okay

the Scoreboard
Hands and Eyes, and
 Mirrors.
Using big gestures, teach all these to your neighbor.
