How does the integumentary system work

The integumentary system works as a barrier to protect the body from the outside world. It retains body fluids, protects against disease, eliminates waste products, and regulates the body temperature.
The integumentary system is important because it protects the body’s internal living tissues and organs, it protects against invasion by infectious organism, protects the body from dehydration, protects the body against abrupt changes in temp, helps dispose of waste materials, acts as a receptor for touch, pressure, pain, heat, and cold, it also stores water and fat.
-The integumentary system is located all over the body.
Skin: The skin is the main organ of the integumentary system. It is made of two dermal layers
● Epidermis: It is the outermost layer of the skin. It forms the waterproof barrier over the body.
● Dermis: It lies below the epidermis. It contains blood vessels, hair follicles and various glands.
● The integumentary is the skin that is the largest organ in the body, with a surface area of 18 square feet.
● In an Adults body the integumentary has 20 sq.ft of skin.
● The hair that is on the integumentary grows 1cm per month.
● In the human body you would have 7 layers of flat, stacked cells.
● Every month you would have a whole new layer of skin.
Alopecia areata, Psoriasis, warts, and dermatitis are some diseases that relate to the integumentary system.
- rash, blisters, infection, sunburn, skin cancer, albinism, acne, herpes, cold sores, impetigo, rubella, cancer, psoriasis are some injuries to the integumentary system.
-meth makes holes in your face. other than that drugs and alcohol don’t do much to the integumentary system.
-Bathe every day and wash your hands regularly. keep your skin and nails clean to prevent infections. avoid using harsh soaps, hair treatments and other irritating chemicals, as they will cause excessive dryness. water that’s too hot will have the same effect, so use warm water in the shower or bath. cut your fingernails and toenails straight across after bathing to avoid hangnails.
You can’t live without the integumentary system because the integumentary system has many functions, most of which are involved in protecting you and regulating your body’s internal functions in a variety of ways.
-The digestive system works with the integumentary system because the digestive system encourage the uptake the calcium of our diet. the healthy functioning of our skin is related to the digestive system because the digestion and the assimilation of our dietary fats and oils.
-The integumentary also works with the circulatory system because the surface through our body. The certain substances can enter the bloodstream through the capillary networks in the skin.
