Sir Lancelot (or Launcelot) was one of the Knights of the Round Table
in the Arthurian legend. He was the most trusted of King Arthur’s
knights and played a part in many of Arthur's victories. Lancelot is
best known for his love affair with Arthur's wife Guinevere and the
role he played in the search for the Holy Grail. He is also known as the
most loyal friend of Arthur's nephew, Sir Gawaine. Lancelot's life and
adventures have been featured in several medieval romances, often
with conflicting back-stories and chains of events.
While reading the story, “The Tale of
Sir Launcelot du Lake” on pages 762766, think about the archetypal hero
and the traits of the hero’s journey.
How does Launcelot follow these
traits? Is he an archetypal hero?
