Steps Services Can Take to Prepare

The Project…
Aim:
1. In a table, collate the steps services need to take, in what order and when,
and the resources that currently exist to help services prepare clients and
families for an NDIS plan
2. Identify resource gaps and tailor resources for respite services





Began the ‘Services Preparing Families’ project with a working party:
Two trial site services (Barwon and Hunter)
Two non-trial site services

Findings: Steps Services Can Take Generally
1. Understand the language of the NDIS:
Resources:
 NDIA website – Support Clusters and Pricing, Guidelines
 National Respite Resources
2. Check that your organisation ‘s policies and documentation are
NDIS ready

 Trial site provider de-identified Service Agreement examples
 Trial site provider de-identified Client referral form

1. Keep an eye out for workshops and sessions that you can share in your
organisation’s bulletin

 Grouped nationally and by state
2. Create a new role within the organization for an NDIS Liaison Officer or
similar who can assist families to prepare and understand supports.

3. Arrange phone or face to face meetings with clients and families:

 NDIA website – adult and children’s checklist, easy language version of the
planning process
 Examples of service provider booklets for face to face/phone meetings
4. Run workshops that explain the general principles of the NDIS to families and
clients.
