• Comments:1979 ICAN was used in classroom, no report forms for medical charts, 1990 version specifically for medical charts.
Skill Level 1:Select proper attire for hiking
Focal Points
• Comfortable pair of high-topped shoes or boots
• Thick and thin pair of socks
• Comfortable pair of pants
• Suitable Shirt
• Suitable Rain Gear
• Suitable Jacket
Skill Level 2:Mature pacing without assistance
Focal Points
• Hike with steps that are a consistent distance apart and with an even pace
• Focus eyes ahead and frequently at feet for obstacles
• Watch for fallen or low-hanging obstacles
Skill Level 3: Uphill and downhill hiking technique
Focal Points
• Hike uphill with the weight on balls of feet
• Maintain a slow, steady pace with rest intervals approximately every five to seven minutes
• Hike uphill with weight on the heels and knees bent slightly
Skill Level 4: Moving under obstacles
Focal Points
• Check for loose braches or rocks before proceeding under obstacles
• Check for safety on other side of rocks
• Help others behind him/her
