By: Joel Bloemker & Andrew Goldsborough PURPOSE The reason we are doing this is to see if the boys or the girls have the best memory. • HYPOTHESIS We think that girls have the best memory because they are the ones that have to do the house keeping and have to remember what they have to do. THE MATERIALS 1 Bouncy ball 2 Paper clips 4 Thumb tacks 2 Hot-Wheel cars 1 Ice pack 5 #2 Pencils 2 Chip clips 1 Cookie sheet 12 6th grade boys 12 6th grade girls 3 School desks 25 Pages of notebook paper 1 Timer 2 Test offices 1 pair The Procedures 1. Gather all materials listed. 2. Place all toy cars, ice packs, paperclips, bouncy ball, thumb tacks, and pencils in tray. 3. Place tray in middle of 1 desk. 4. Set up offices on separated desks. 5. Gather 12 6th grade boys and 12 6th grade girls. 6. Set the timer for 1 min. 7. Get all volunteers to study tray. 8. Once timer goes off, hide the tray. 9. Give each boy & girl a piece of paper 10. Put boy & girl in separate offices and set the timer for 1 min. 11. Have boy & girl turn in paper and see which one has more items. 12. Repeat step 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11 at least 2 more times with different items. Results For Memory Test 70 The bars and the graph show the results of the test and how many items each boy or girl remembered through the trials. 60 50 40 Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 30 20 10 0 Boys Girls Conclusions In our test, we found out that girls have the better memory because the total result for all three trials was Boys: 152; Girls: 162. Our Hypothesis was correct. It turns out that girls do have the better memory. We think that our hypothesis was correct because, like we said before it is probably because they have to do more stuff than boys and have to remember what they need to do. Acknowledgements We would like to thank: Mrs. Larsen for all the supplies she lent us. All the 6th grade students who participated in the project and lent us supplies. For the opportunity to do this.
