A exposição ao maltrato ou negligência pode
perturbar o desenvolvimento do cérebro.
(National Scientific Council on the Developing
Child, 2010).
A pobreza afeta o desenvolvimento das funções
executivas (Lipina, Martelli, Vuelta, &
Colombo, 2005; Noble, McCandliss, & Farah,
2007),

Não sabemos.
Crianças maltratadas ou negligentes têm notas mais
baixas nos testes e nos exames, e têm maior
probabilidade de chumbar o ano do que as crianças
não maltratadas ou negligentes; dos dois grupos, as
crianças negligentes apresentam o mais baixo
desempenho académico. (Eckenrode, et al., 1993)

Salas de aulas pré-escolares de elevada
qualidade parecem atuar como fator de
proteção para as crianças que têm maior risco
de insucesso escolar (Burchinal, et al., 2002).
