the personality of a character. There are five different
methods of indirect characterization:
Speech: What does the character say? How does the character speak?
Thoughts:What is revealed through the character’s private thoughts and

behave in reaction to the character?

that she was motherly because she wanted to clean his face. She then
takes him to her home, cleans his face, and offers to cook him dinner. In
the end, she even gives him money to buy shoes. In conclusion, Mrs.
Luella Bates Washington Jones is motherly.
