Winnie Kane, NuStar Energy, L.P., West Region Region IX VPPPA Conference, April 3, 2012 winnie.kane@nustarenergy.com Why Hazard Recognition? The Hazard Recognition Process Training/Stewardship What is Hazard Recognition? What are some conditions that should be considered? How can you use SAP for Hazard Recognition? Q&A To create and maintain a safe and injury-free work place Regulatory compliance Company standards One of the four principles of VPP Location is divided into areas The HSE/VPP manager determines what specific items will be audited during the quarter based on Safety Trends, VPP coordinator and employee input. Asset manager assigns trained inspectors to perform hazard recognition inspections per the appropriate frequency Inspectors do field audits and record any discrepancies (small fixes are completed if possible during the inspections) Necessary repairs are entered as a notification into SAP using the VPP maintenance activity type variant The notification will be turned into a work order for correction Costs and time associated with the correction will be captured under the work order The work order will be updated with status and history changes until completed Initial Hazard Recognition Training is Required (including a written test) Mentoring of additional inspectors (initially trained employees training others) is allowed Hazard Recognition Refresher Training is required every 3 years *Required only in California OSHA is going to require: ◦ Documentation of completion of Quarterly Hazard Recognition Inspections ◦ Documentation of timely corrections of inspection findings Recognizing, reducing and controlling an unsafe act or condition. Created new maintenance activity types for VPP hazard recognition findings and VPP audit findings Creation of work orders allows users to write requisitions immediately on the work order Costs associated with repairs on VPP-related hazard recognition and audit items can be tracked in SAP SAP allows for a variety of reports to be generated that show basic start date and end dates, long text, history, costs, vendors used, user and system statuses SAP information is real-time and can be monitored by multiple users for a variety of information Incorporating your VPP findings into SAP will do the following: ◦ Add VPP findings to your current repair to-do list ◦ Eliminate the potential for discrepancies between lists that can be found and written up during the audit process ◦ Eradicate duplicate efforts of maintaining two lists/systems ◦ Allow immediate requisitioning of parts/labor for repairs A web-based graphical user interface has helped encourage use of SAP List uploads of hazard findings/gap analysis also encourage use of SAP and speed the process of follow-up AUFART PRIOK TPLNR KTEXT ILART GSTRP PM03 Storm water Tank 2118 needs a safety gate on Planned k200-tt1-taco-ops the ladder-on the Gap Analysis 045 1/18/2013 PM03 PM03 Planned k200-tt1-taco-ops Paint Yellow on curbs throughout the terminal 045 Planned k200-tt1-taco-ops Clean up in boneyard and shop 045 1/18/2013 1/18/2013 GLTRP LTEXT1 Storm water Tank 2118 needs a safety gate on the ladder-on the 3/31/2013 Gap Analysis Paint Yellow on curbs throughout 3/31/2013 the terminal 3/31/2013 Clean up in boneyard and shop
