• Create a JOB DESCRIPTION for the president’s
job

You can nominate any student in the class
You can nominate yourself
All nominations require a SECONDER
What’s your message?
Why should we vote for you?
• Nominees explain their position
• Make a STUMP SPEECH
• Campaign for electors – promote yourself!
What’s a Stump?
It’s a tree stump.

• Here is JFK
• Standing on a chair
• Nominees often
stood on a tree
stump!
• To make themselves
heard.
Creating a ballot
• With 2-3 nominees we can create a Ballot!
• Electors vote by checking the box
The votes are counted
Results are announced
The Winners and Losers
• Each makes a speech to the class:
• The winner makes an ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
• The loser makes a CONCESSIONS speech,
conceding that he or she has not won.
Swearing In Ceremony
• The winner is sworn in by an official with that
authority
• in US Presidential elections it is the Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court
• In class it will be the teacher!
• Candidate swears while holding a bible, Koran,
or other holy book (is personal choice)
