The Native Americans in New England and
the English colonist had different beliefs
about control and use of land. Describe
what each group believed about owning

disagreement about this issue.
Native Americans did not believe that people could own land, so
when they “sold” it to the colonists, they thought they were
agreeing to share it. The colonist believed that people could
own land so they expelled the Native Americans after they
bought their land. This disagreement led to conflicts between
Native Americans and the colonists.
