An ODOT program that will reward an incentive to prequalified towing and recovery companies for the timely removal of large vehicle incidents from ODOT roadway. The first pilot program has begun in the Central Ohio Area. Rusty’s Towing, Eitel’s Towing, Eastland Towing, and ProTow have all been prequalified to participate. Future expansion to Cleveland and Cincinnati WHAT QUALIFIES AS A TRIP? A TRIP call may be initiated under the following conditions: A crash involving a DOT Class 7 or 8 Heavy Duty vehicle that blocks or otherwise affects the traveled lanes Rollover, jack-knifed, or otherwise not drivable Lost or shifted load Truck fire w/ tires burned off Major impact with guard rail, bridge support, or structure A crash involving a DOT Class 5 or 6 vehicle that blocks or otherwise affects the travelled lanes Rollover, jack-knifed. Or otherwise not drivable Fire w/tires burned off Major impact with guard rail, bridge support. TMC may be notified of a potential TRIP situation by ODOT, FSP, law enforcement, and/or fire/emergency. If there is an agreement that the incident qualifies, the TMC will notify the contractor and record the time of notification. No more than 60 minutes from initial contact at any other time. The contractor shall complete clearance activities no more than 90 minutes from being given the go-ahead by the incident commander. $2500 or $600 show up fee EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES At any time the Incident Commander may direct the Company to stop clearance activities due to extenuating circumstances (HazMat, etc). When the direction to stop is given by the Incident Commander, the Company shall inform the ODOT TMC. The “90 minute Clock” will be paused. When the direction to proceed with road clearance activity is issued, the Company shall inform the ODOT TMC. The “90 minute Clock” will begin again from where it was paused. These timestamps must be recorded and verified by the Incident Commander (can be done after the incident). TRIP BEST PRACTICE VIDEO
