PROCESS OF INTERNATIONALIZATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION ON THE EXAMPLE OF MEGATREND UNIVERSITY Ana Jovancai Katarina Zakic INTRODUCTION Education is one of the most important aspects in people's everyday life. The society cannot improve and move on, if it doesn’t have good educational system, good teachers and good students. In order to achieve that, one country does need to invest heavily in its educational system. Examples from all over the world are telling us that our country needs to do the same thing. China, Japan, USA, Germany and France are countries from which we can learn a lot. Although Serbia doesn’t have so many financial resources to develop such a good educational system that this mentioned countries have, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have to try. State primary, secondary schools and universities have been the core of the educational system in Serbia for centuries. Also there is tendency in our country to send a lot of our students abroad to study. Before the II World War usually students from Serbia went to Germany and France to study. After the II World War because of so many possibilities to go every way, students from Serbia usually went to USA. INTRODUCTION The time has changed and there is quick and emerging change in the educational filed in this country. The main focus of private investors is opening private schools is at the level of faculties. Megatrend University is pioneer in that filed, since it celebrates 25th birthday this year, and since it opened first private business school in Serbia. There were three stages of developing our University: firstly, we started with forming the business schools/faculties and with forming educational programs; secondly, we invested in building our facilities and developing the domestic market; thirdly, we started with the new phase in our development and that is the process of internationalization. Process of internationalization at Megatrend University has three levels: there is a plan to bring foreign students to Serbia and also to send our students to foreign countries; than to exchange professors with other Universities and at the end to start with our educational programs in English language. INTRODUCTION Currently, Megatrend University is in the phase of development and internationalisation where we endeavour to expand our operations globally. Megatrend University has internationally recognized educational, scientific and artistic programs, harmonized with Bologna declaration. Megatrend collaborates with most respectable national and foreign universities and scientific institutions, thus it has an international academic network, which allows circulation of its scientific research in educational processes. Cultural cooperation and exchange programs organized by University’s International Cooperation Department actively contribute to the improvement of relations between our country and the rest of the world. So far, Megatrend has been the leader on the market, pushing the boundaries of higher education in Serbia by introducing innovative programs and new ideas. The project is precisely the next step in the process of differentiating Megatrend from other universities in the region. Recently, there has been a lot of talk in Serbia about the need for changing image in the field of law, economics and education. Serbia used to have an outstanding image in higher education and this is just one of the ways to restore the old glory. The achieved results of the internationalization process at Megatrend University prove that the process was approached meticulously, with a clear strategy and activity plan. During this phase, the program of undergraduate studies in the English language should be implemented, which will certainly be the most demanding implementation process so far. The paper provides the analysis which shows high chances of success of this project and positioning Megatrend University in the global scientific and higher education sphere.
