Student Profile – Samuel Harris
The 4 year BSc course offers a placement year which allowed me to
build on fundamental experiences and is paving the way for further
research.
I was able to construct a dissertation based on archaeomagnetic dating
and I hope to take this with me to master’s level and beyond.
Some of my best experiences have been the field trips around the UK
visiting the famous (Stonehenge Landscape), and not so famous
(Ingram Valley) archaeological sites.

While being at the university I have managed to get involved in some
amazing things.
A great example of this is the extracurricular project set up by students.
The project looks at research from the field of tissue engineering.
Not only did we receive funding for the project, we also travelled around
the country and visited research labs that carry out experiments that
shape the future of tissue engineering.

I just finished my third year of chemistry and the atmosphere at
the university is great!
I love the fact that the course is not overcrowded and
lecturers know everyone by their names and that you can
talk to them and your tutor whenever you feel you need to.
The laboratory sessions are very well prepared and you
even get chance to design your experiment later on in the course!

at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
The depth of what you're expected to know in a work scenario is
something that I could not have picked up whilst studying at
university. It advanced my practical skills beyond that of my peers.
My employers were supportive and constructive as they provided
training and experience that is hard to come by.
Optometry
• Healthcare profession concerned with examination, diagnosis
and treatment of the human vision system.
• Our three-year course is based on both fundamental academic
studies and detailed clinical and practical classes.

Optometry – Special Features
• The course is scientifically based, with a particular emphasis
on the clinical practice of optometry.
• The department has one of the highest percentages of
registered optometrists as members of academic staff across
all UK universities - research and teaching experience.
• Students see patients in the University's own clinics, and also
attend local hospitals where students are instructed in the
recognition of eye disease by senior ophthalmologists.

Bradford has a very good reputation for Optometry. I had a look at
other Universities, and Bradford was my favourite.
There is the Eye Clinic, where many of our practical sessions are
held with volunteer patients. There are also practice rooms
which contain all of the necessary equipment needed.
In the Eye Clinic we are taught how to use up to date equipment
on patients and different techniques that can be carried out.
Pharmacy

Science-based health profession concerned with
medicines and their use in the treatment and prevention
of disease.
•
Aim to produce experts in medicines and includes
extensive teaching in the areas of Drug Design, Drug
Delivery, Drug Action and Drug Management.

Enthusiastic, caring and approachable staff who are
committed to ensuring that graduates are fully prepared
for the many roles that pharmacists undertake.

Registration as a 'pharmacist' is conditional upon
successful completion of an MPharm degree in
pharmacy, one year of professional experience in an
approved pharmaceutical establishment, and passing a
national examination conducted by the General
Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
