3rd Grade Guarantee
Effective July 1, 2003 for any student who attains a score in the below basic range on the third-grade reading achievement test, the school district shall consider the following:
(1) Promote the student if the student's principal and reading teacher agree that other evaluations of the student's skill in reading demonstrate the student is academically prepared to be promoted;
(2) Promote the student but provide intensive intervention services; and
(3) Retain the student.
• THIS STILL APPLIES TO 2012-13 SCHOOL YEAR
All students entering the third grade must demonstrate a certain level of competency in reading before advancing to the fourth grade. This level will start between limited and proficient and will rise over time.
K-3

• Math block is 85 minutes which allows for instruction in math all five days for 50 -55 minutes and intervention three days/week in math with the other 30 minutes.
• Intervention Block (FLEX) is for 30 minutes 4 days/week with a focus on reading. If students are at grade level, enrichment occurs.
• After School Intervention – One day/week after school. This will help them with test taking skills, but may not do much for addressing students that have difficulty in basic reading skills since it is only one day/week.
• Please know that interventions happen all day long for many students. The teachers give attention to those that need it for every subject they may not be proficient at. This is really just part of the daily fare at our elementary school .
