The general rule is……..
• To apply for a Level 3 course you will
need:
• English, Maths or Science at C grade or above
• You will need a B or above in English, Maths or
Science if you want to study them at A level. (this
may apply to other subjects as well – check with
the colleges)
• You will need at least a total of 5 different
subjects at C or above
• Any BTECs you are doing will have to be a Merit
or Distinction grade

• 6 weeks – 6 months duration
• Work experience is found by the provider
• No salary for traineeships

• Available for 16-24 year olds
• 16-19 year olds below level 3
• 19-24 year olds without a level 2
• NEET (as long as you do not have Level 3)

Minimum Wage
As at 1 October 2013
£3.72 per hour for 16-17 year olds
£5.03 per hour for 18-20 year olds
£6.31 per hour for workers aged 21 +
An apprentice minimum wage of £2.68 /hr.
Work / Volunteering
14 & 15 year olds:
• 3 hours a day
(not before 7am after 7pm)
• 18 hours a week maximum
• 8 hours a day at weekends
16 & 17 year olds (once left school):
Sixteen- and 17-year-olds may be employed for
unlimited hours in any occupation other than those
declared hazardous by the Secretary of Labour.

commercial mixers and certain power-driven bakery machines.
