Marie Sklodowska: November 7th 1867- July 4th 1934 Born in Warsaw, Poland 1891- Went to Paris Degree in Mathematics & Physics 1895- Married to Pierre Curie Marie Curie died due to overexposure of radioactive material Timeline & Contributions: Timeline: 1896- Henri Becquerel discovers radioactivity 1898- J. J Thomson develops pudding model of an atom Contributions: Developed ways to separate radium from residue 1914- World War I, Marie encouraged radium for remedy Experiment: Used chemical analysis to isolate Pitchblende Identified the radioactive fractions Discovered that two fractions were strongly radioactive Concluded that Barium and Bismuth contained new elements Tools Used: • • Apparatus used to detect radioactivity Curie Electrometer to identify radioactive fractions.
