SEN Changes – Summer 2014 Lucy Crawford Browser change Layout has been tidied. New SEN Statuses – England only New SEN Statuses added: • E (EHCP) – Education, Health and Care • K – SEN Support When you will be able to use the new statuses • The new statuses are available in the Summer release, but should be used from September 2014 When you will need to transfer over the old statuses to the new statuses K – SEN Support • Schools will have until the end of the Summer term in 2015 to move their existing pupils from School Action and School Action Plus over to the new K – SEN Support • Schools will have until the Spring 2015 Census to move new pupils from School Action and School Action Plus to SEN Support When you will need to transfer over the old statuses to the new statuses E – EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) • During the transitional period (at least for the 2014 to 2015 academic year), schools will be able to record pupils/students as having either a Statement or an EHCP. • Schools can record pupils as having either a Statement or an EHCP as of 1st September 2014 (but not both) Can I bulk update statuses? • SIMS does allow bulk update of statuses • The current advice would suggest not to use bulk update, but rather to change the status of pupils/students at the point of review (which happens regularly enough to have occurred for students before the timescales mentioned). • This will allow the level of provision (recorded as status) for each child to be reviewed, rather than simply changed, or transferred. New SEN Statuses BESD Still Historical • BESD is visible for historical need types, but is not available to select as a new need. • BESD is still available in the reporting dictionary if you click ‘show all’ Transitioning away from BESD • BESD will not end automatically in SIMS • BESD will not be transferred over to SEMH in SIMS (as BESD and SEMH do not mean the same thing) • There is no bulk update for SEN Needs in SIMS • It is suggested that when the child with SEN has a review, that the SEN needs are reviewed (as would be normal practice) and that the BESD need type is changed at that point. How to record changes from BESD • Find SEN Student • Open up panel 3 • Open up BESD need type by double clicking on the record, or clicking on Open How to record changes from BESD • Once you’ve opened the need, add an end date, press OK, then press Save at the top of the Student/Pupil SEN Details Screen.
