All U.S. graduate programs (Master’s level and PhD level) include classroom work –a set number of course modules AND written work – an extended report, thesis, or dissertation.

What is Graduate Study?

Master’s Degree: 1-2 years beyond Bachelor’s

MA = Master of Arts

Admissions Process: 2 Steps

STEP 1: School admissions will check to see that all documents are in order and that you meet the minimum standards for university admission.

STEP 2: Your application will be assessed by the department to ascertain your suitability and compatibility with department professors.

Timeline

• April-July: think, read, research, select schools and programs. Plan essays and cultivate your recommenders.

• August-November: take GRE/GMAT/TOEFL, write essays, get transcripts and recommendations, fill out applications, and communicate with professors.

• November – January: Complete applications.

• March-May: Notified of decisions.

• August – Fall academic year begins.
