• The Smarter Balanced Assessment
Consortium is one of two multistate
consortia that has developed an
assessment system based on the new
Common Core State Standards
(CCSS)
• Three components:
o Summative assessments – spring 2014
o Interim assessments – spring/fall 2014
o Formative tools – spring 2014

What is a Computer Adaptive Test?
O Based on student responses the computer
program adjusts the difficulty of questions
through the assessment
O Advantages:
O Provides accurate measurements of student
growth over time
O Item difficult is based on student response
O Shorter test length
O Turn around time is significantly reduced
O CAT will start in spring 2015
