Since it was first held in 2009,
the Fête de la Bretagne has
become a key event in the annual
calendar for both those with a
fondness for Brittany and those
who have chosen to share the
best our region has to offer, from
music and dance to gastronomy,
nature and heritage.
For the sixth consecutive year, the
Conseil régional is supporting the
promotion of over 300 events to
be held both in Brittany and elsewhere in France
and the world over the course of 4 days as part
of this major festival, which still remains true
to its unifying values of creativity, conviviality,
solidarity and openness to others. In an area that
ranks among the most active regions in terms of
its vibrant community scene and involvement in
voluntary work, the Fête de la Bretagne is also a
unique opportunity to highlight the incredible
energy of its 4,500 volunteers.
through the various cultural events organised as
part of the festival, which often involve people
from different generations and members of the
public, the Fête de la Bretagne helps bring life
to the region as a whole and is keen to remain
accessible to as many people as possible. With
the event being promoted throughout Brittany,
as well as elsewhere in France and abroad, these
diverse forms of expression and this dynamism
will only add to the appeal of our region once
again this year.

President of the Conseil régional de Bretagne

whilst others incur a small charge or are priced at a special rate, with an increasing number of events adopting a free pricing
policy (meaning that the public are free to decide and have a say in what contribution they make in the form of an entry fee).
Don’t forget that full detailed information relating to each event, including an interactive map,
the option of searching for events by town, theme or audience, and much more, is available on our website!

Du côté de Brest…
Astropolis is a beacon of electro music at the cutting-edge of the world...
What better way to enjoy some family time in relaxing surroundings
than this annual gathering on the soft lawns of the Fort de Penfeld with
a nice picnic! The relaxed vibe here even extends to the electronic boules
match, Mix’n’Boules, played to the beat of house, groove and chillwave
sets. Close by, should the mood take you, you will get the opportunity to
try your hand at some traditional games, or even, if you’re between 4 and
18 years of age, enjoy a taste of the culinary activities rustled up by the
‘Cookids on the Floor’, who will delight your taste buds with a musical jelly
or some savoury cookies incorporating various sound and visual effects,
whilst new artistic talents from the electro, pop, rock and traditional
music scenes will be unleashing their talent on the Breton springtime!
Of course, Astropolis continues to adopt its green, united approach and
is an environmentally-friendly event. What a programme!

Tell me about my roots
once upon a time, in a harsh and
barren land, a country of princes, it
was enough to simply plant tomatoes,
artichokes, potatoes, broccoli, carrots,
cabbages, onions, coconuts and so
many other tender vegetables to see
them grow and thrive. one day in
2013, Michèle decided to put down
her basket and build her organic vegetable house, the 13-hectare Maison
des Légumes de la Bretagne, in an
attempt to comprehend the mystery
of life - the land, the environment,
agriculture and cuisine,as well as the
memory of the place, the history of
Saint-Pol-de-Léon, the first markets,
types of soil and even recognising
seeds and flowers, not to mention
the more subtle recognition inspired
by our senses of touch and smell
and even the pleasure of tasting….
A truly gourmet event structured

Children’s and adults’ groups from Clohars-Carnoët and Querrien will
be taking to the streets of Moëlan-sur-Mer accompanied by the Bagad
de Bannalec. Bagpipes, bombards, base drums and snare drums will
be providing the backdrop to these great days of events based on the
theme of ‘Bretons of the coast, Bretons as travellers’. one thing for sure is
that their bags are jam-packed with surprises, including the following:
• The screening of a documentary on the subjects of man and the
sea, an introduction to the Breton language, a heritage walk, a trip
to Chile and Costa rica in the form of a video conference with two
young Breton-speakers, an open mic cocktail hour, fest-noz and a
beautiful photographic exhibition by Michel Thersiquel devoted to
the trades of the sea.

Cafés de Pays
They pop up all over the countryside, tucked away where you wouldn’t
expect them, and you might even be forgiven for not noticing them
at all during the week, but come back on a Friday night and it’s a
completely different story!
The majority of those frequenting Cafés de Pays will be on first-name
terms. These are truly open-minded, welcoming establishments where
life really is good and it really is all about sharing, chatting and catching
up on what’s happening in the area. Naturally, they’re pretty keen to
celebrate Brittany, too!
Fancy sampling the local flavours set against a musical backdrop?

Lorient. You know it like the back of your hand, right? ...Are you sure
about that? The Photographes de Lorient association would like to set
you a challenge, namely to photograph the city from its most quirky
and original angles. regardless of your photographic technique, you
are invited to wander the streets in pairs as you take part in a 2-hour
photo marathon with the only requirement being that you stick to the
specified theme. There will be no scouting beforehand, but a sharp eye
will no doubt prove invaluable!
The city harbours some wonderful secrets that the Photographes de Lorient invite you to capture as part of this highly creative recreational day.

Tremen Distremen #2
The Quistinic henhouse was
custom-built for the Compagnie
Omnibus! Former circus school
students Anouk and Erwan’s trials
and tribulations led them to think
about movement in all its forms,
sound and dissonance, harmony
and also rhythm, or the absence
thereof. Of course, they had to do
something with all this disorder,
and so the Compagnie Omnibus
was born in the henhouse adjoining the garden.
The company is marking the Fête
de la Bretagne by opening up its
Big Top to various genres of music,
including slam, jazz, funky veuze
playing a waltz mash-up and
even the spoken word, not to
mention fire-breathers setting
the stage alight, astrophysicists
of the gavotte and Drum & Breizh,
among other things. One thing for
sure is that the party in Quistinic
is just getting started!

Nearly 5 million Bretons have decided, at some point in time, to
up sticks and move away. The Bretons certainly like to travel! Having said that, even when they’re far from home, they never seem
to lose their taste for all things Breton, as demonstrated by the
creation and flourishing of various associations right around the
world, some of which have been around for nigh-on a century or
more. Every year, some of them, such as Bzh New York, Breizh Eire,
Breizh Mex, Kevredigezh Bretoned Bro Vietnam, ZhongBreizh and
now Kansaï Breizh and the Association Folklorica Cultural Trebolgu
de Bretones en Asturias, organise various events to mark the Fête
de la Bretagne. Like conquerors with a desire to raise awareness of
and promote their homeland, they successfully organise a variety of
festive events that attract Breton artists and businesses alike. Keep
an eye on what they do and make a note of their contact details
in your travel diary - if ever your paths should cross they would be
sure to extend a warm welcome, just like back home!
