History of Bretagne
 Breton
history, as they call it dates back to before
5000 B.C.
 In the north-west of France, Bretagne lies on a
peninsula that extends 150 miles into the Atlantic.
 Between 3500 and 1500 BC, new a new people
came to Brittany from the Mediterranean who
brought with them their traditions and religion.
 Many Celts came over and settled in the east and
they believed in supernatural stuff like magic
rocks.
 In the 1st century the Romans conquered Brittany.
 In the 3rd century Christianity arrived.
Famous Cities and Villages
 Saint-Malo:
A walled in city in Brittany. In SaintMalo you can visit the St. Vincent Cathedral and
then you can go to the Musee du Chateau.
 Dinan:
Dinan is a very mid-evil toned town and is
one of the most extensive ramparts in Brittany. In
Dinan you can go to the La Bourbansais which is
a beautiful zoo.
Things To Do
 Cycling:
Cycling is very popular in Brittany due to its
beautiful landscapes and surroundings. A favorite
cycling place is on The Pink Granite Coast which is
filled with beautiful, shimmering rocks.
 Horseback Riding: Horseback Riding is a fun way to
sight see in Bretagne. From exploring on a hike or
riding on a beautiful beach.
 Golfing: Brittany is a golfing heaven. With so many
pretty courses it’s hard to not go golfing.
Food Specialties
Bretagne’s food specialties are:

A well known dish called, Plateau de fruits de mar (Seafood
Platter). That contains fish, oysters, prawns, crabs, and
mussles.

A favorite pastry there is Far Breton, which is a heavy egg
pudding with prunes.

Galettes: Buck wheat pancakes and crepes. Filled with filling
both are desserts unless you make Galette Sausage with
barbequed sausage, with a galette wrapped around it.
Festivals and Celebrations
Some Celebrations and Festivals in Bretagne are:
 The
InterCeltic Festival in Lorient, during 10 days in
August , music, dancing, food and parades
happen on the southern edge of the Bretange.
People from Ireland, Wales and Scotland come
and participate.
 Fête des Remparts (Festival of the Ramparts) which
is held in Dinan every 2 years on July 19th and 20th .
Where merchants, actors and citizens dress up and
celebrate the mid-evil times.
Les Menhirs de Carnac
Carnac is home to prehistoric rock formations
that date back to 4500
B.C are still mysteries
today.
Complete with three
alignments with a total
of 2,395 monuments
Mont St. Michel
 Located
approximately one kilometer (just over half
a mile) off the country's north-western coast.
 Has been there since the 6th century and was used
for fortification.
 In the middle of Mont. Saint Michel there is a giant
church built by the bishop of Avranches.
Other Things
 Asterix:
Asterix is a European comic character that
lived in Amorica which is present day Brittany.
 Brittany has a warm, temperate climate. Rainfall
occurs regularly – which has helped keep its
countryside green and wooded, but sunny,
cloudless days are also common.
