Ward 17 – Portobello and Craigmillar:
Category 1 Roads- 19.1km
Category 2 Roads- 4.2km
Category 3 Roads- 6.6km
Category 4 Roads- 63.3km
Total = 93.2km

What are we responsible for?
• Inspection and maintenance of roads and
pavements
• Co-ordinating utility works
• Allocating disabled parking spaces
• Organising road markings and general road
repairs
• Providing permits (for scaffolding, skips, etc).
94 permits have been processed by the team
since March 2012

at Milton Road junction and both Newcraighall Road junctions
with A1.

Publicise Neighbourhood Environment Programme budget: Members of the
public were asked for project nominations; and decisions were agreed by the
Environment Forum in March 2012
•
Nominations for 2013 projects: A bus tour took place in November 2012, to
invite suggestions for 2013 projects. Nominations are invited at the end of this
meeting
•
Receive updates on NEP projects progress: A written report of actions is
provided at each meeting.
•
Encourage local reporting of roads & pavement issues through ‘Local Issues’
reporting form: the New Local Issues form is distributed at each meeting
•
Walking and cycling on the Promenade and Eastfield: markings are being
installed at entrances to Portobello Prom, to advise that it is part of Core Path
Network (open to pedestrian, cyclists, horse riders)
•
Identify and solve accident black spots. Examples include the Jewel to Asda ratrun: A mini workshop at the end of this meeting invites you to give us your
thoughts on potential black spot areas in Ward 17.
Current Projects:
Right First Time
• Right First Time is an ongoing project to permanently repair
defects on roads and pavements throughout the city
• A repair squad is working within East Neighbourhood to repair
defects up to 10m2 in size. If there are defects bigger than
this, they will be identified and repaired at a later date
• Recent locations in Ward 17 include Regent Street,
Marlborough Street, Niddrie Mill, the Cleekim’s and Wisp
Green.
• Approximately £400k spent on this project in East
Neighbourhood in 2012/ 2013
