E-Mail: kebbiadp@yahoo.com Telephone: 08034088919 Kebbi Agricultural & Rural Development Authority (KARDA) conducts its agricultural activities within its four (4) zones situated at Argungu, Bunza, Zuru and Yauri. The ADP operates alongside with other projects such as NPFS, NFDP III, IFAD-CBADRP, KBS-CBARDP, Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme (CACS), Kebbi Agricultural Supply Company (KASCOM) and Rural Access Mobility Project (RAMP). They are all working towards betterment of farmers condition in the state. Year 2012 raining season came to an end at the beginning of November in zones III and IV while zones I and II received their last rains at the end of October. The weather condition from beginning of November has been cool at night and morning while it is generally warm in the afternoon. A) Asset acquisition: 669 FUG sub-projects completed. 4,965 2” w/pumps distributed. 51 rice proc. Machines distributed. 190 w/bulls, 124 fishing equipment, 58 honey collection equipment etc. were also distributed. B) Community Infrastructure: 4 culverts, 6 market stall, 2 feeder roads, etc were constructed at various locations. C) Advisory services : 377 FUGs received grants to access services in water management, rice production, pest and disease management in onion,fish feed formulation, erosion control measures etc D) Capacity building : 31 FCAs and 369 FUGs were trained, 42 LGA staff were trained in Project Management skill. (2) Component IV of Fadama III: A total of 38 hectares were put under cultivation for wet season SAWAH tech at birnin kebbi, Jega, Argungu and Suru LGAs. Three (3) farmers bought their own power tillers to boost their rice production. NPFS The programme is operating in 9 LGAs in the state under expansion phase from 3 LGAs of the 1st phase. Each site or LGA has formed 10 associations that are participating in the programme. The associations are generally mixed (25 male and 5 female). In the year 2012, disbursement of packages was not executed due to non-receipt of enterprise budget funds from NPFS but recovery of disbursed funds of the previous years is in progress. The percentage recovery stood at 85% as at 31st October 2012. CBARDP The state operates IFAD-CBARDP and KB-CBARDP (state funded). While the World Bank fund operations in 9 LGAs, the state funded (KB-CBARDP) covered all the 21 LGAS in areas ranging from capacity building, sustainable agric development (SAD), Rural enterprise Dev. & Financial Linkages (REDFILs), Gender and Vulnerable Groups Dev. (GVG) and Rural infrastructure. SAD activities OFAR trials have been conducted under the Sustainable Agricultural Development (SAD) of the programme. All the trials were conducted in collaboration with the community members. The technologies being disseminated in the OFAR trials include: (1) Stringa control on sorghum. (2) Improved high yielding and disease resistant G/nut varieties. (3) G/nut multiplication and food/feed trial (4) Nitrogen and phosphorus evaluation on maize/soyabean (5) Demonstration on improved sorghum varieties (6) Seed multiplication of improved millet, rice and cowpea varieties. Commercial Agricultural The state in collaboration with Zenith Bank PLC has disbursed the Credit Scheme (CACS) sum of #1b to farmers across the 21 LGAs of the state within the period under review. The aim of the Scheme is to provide loans to farmers to boost their agricultural potentials. Recovery strategy has reached an advance stage. These includes; - setting up of recovery committee, - mode of repayment (in cash or in kind), - payments in cash should be transferred to CACS account maintained with Zenith Bank plc and - payment in kind at specified rate/100kg was passed to the Executive Council for approval. Collaboration with BATN Foundation The Foundation supported 40 farmers in two locations with inputs and training for rice production. It is intended to be conducted in three years with effect from 2011. In year 2012 harvesting have been started in all the 2 locations. RURAL ACCESS AND MOBILITY PROJET (RAMP) 15 million Naira was paid by the state government as takeoff grant for renovation, office furnishing and purchase of 4 WD vehicle. The Project has developed implementation plans for rural feeder roads. NIRSAL Nigeria Incentive Based Risk Sharing for Agricultural Lending Initiative (NIRSAL) will share risk with stakeholders (30-80%) along the agricultural value chain; link insurance with borrowed money; building capacities of banks and micro finance institutions. Series of meetings were held with the stake holders and Committee was proposed for its implementation in the state. AETA Agricultural Extension Transformation Agenda (AETA) sensitization workshop was held in the state (7th – 9th February, 2012). The visiting Team under the Chairmanship of Prof. Tunji Arokoyo paid courtesy visit to His Excellency, The Deputy Governor. A sensitization w/shop was thereafter conducted at presidential hall. On the last day of the visit the team conducted a meeting with ADP officials to discuss position of extension activities in the state. Fertilizer: In the 2012 cropping season 240mt of assorted fertilizer comprising of NPK and Urea were procured and sold to farmers. The state govt. subsidized rate per bag was N1,700.00 for Urea and NPK. Input Situation NATASHI Agro-Chemical GES SCHEME Ten thousand (10,000) dry season farmers will be supported with the required inputs and equipment under the New Agricultural transformation and self help initiative (NATASHI) programme. The state distributed 5 metric tones of Sippi variety of rice to farmers free of charge. Adequate but farmers need more enlightenment regarding calibration and safeguard precaution measures. The programme was launched on July 9th 2012 by Hon Minister of Agriculture at Kalgo in Kalgo LGA. A total of 93,875 bags were sold to 46,938 farmers in the state under GES scheme. This represents 61% of the total registered farmers. The supplies were made by WACOT, NOTORE, SPRINGFIELD and MBS. Accordingly improved seeds of maize and rice were supplied by Premier, Maslaha, WACOT and Value Seeds under the programme. ANNUAL CROP The state received a team of research scientists to access production activities on crop and non-crop sub-sectors on 29-30/8/2012 under the EVALUATION Input Situation Tractor/Animal Traction PROBLEMS This has been fully privatised under Private Partnership Arrangement (PPA) . Cooperative associations in the state under the F.G Community tractor hiring service programme have paid 10% deposit totaling N161,621,350 For 226 units of tractors, Only 113 units have been received in 2010/2011, the remaining balance of 153 is yet to be received. The brands of tractors under the programme include Messy Ferguson, Mahindra and Styer. The cost of tillage per hectare ranges from N5,000 to N6,000 for ploughing and ridging. Harrowing is rarely done by farmers in the state. Quiler birds attached millet, rice and late millet in the state. The federal and state govts. intervened by aerial spray while individuals devised birds scaring means. These efforts yielded about 70% control. Stem borer infested late millet which resulted into low production of the crop. At the beginning of the wet season the state experienced flood along the Rima river, river Zamfara and river Niger banks. This flood affected the production of crops along these banks.
