This is where, hanging here from this gallows ...” That night, the soup tasted of corpses.’ (P. 62) • God is dead • “The days resembled the nights, and the nights left in our souls the dregs of their darkness.” p.94 • Spirits crushed • No happiness • Imprint on souls • “So many events had taken place in just a few hours that I had completely lost all notion of time. When had we left our homes?” … “One night? One single night?” • Disbelief • Transformation Purpose Wiesel’s main purpose was to write his memoirs of the Holocaust. “Night offers an eyewitness account of the utmost importance, but it is essentially one young man’s story.” Why was the word Night used? • Used to show how the Jews were isolated and abandoned without hope. • Gives reader an idea of how horrific the holocaust was. • Describes the emotional terror of Jews.
