Name: piranha
 Scientific name:
serrasalmus
 It is the most deadly fish in
the Amazon
 They mostly swim in packs
 They make horrible pets

WHAT A PIRANHA LOOKS LIKE






The colors are :
green, brown, red,
and orange
they have one row of
sharp teeth
They have protective
eyelids like a bullfrog
They have 5 fins all
used for swimming
They are about 5-15
inches long
They weigh about 5
lbs.
PREADATOR V.S. PREY
Predator to: anything if there are enough
piranhas, but mostly other fish
 Prey of gators, crabs, and dolphins


damp and
sticky the
water is
murky
Reproduction

Not much is known about piranha
reproduction but it has been proven that
piranhas have at least five babies and
the male will guard the nest while the
female will go and provide food for their
young.
LIFE SPAN
A normal
piranha lives
for about ten
years but the
red piranha
lives for 25
years
 In captivity
piranhas live
for 1 -5 years

Over Rated

Piranhas are way over rated they have
stories and movies about them but the
truth is they really aren’t that mean most
people over rate piranhas and say they
look something like this
Behavioral Adaptation
If a piranha would like to stay
alive for its full life span it must do
whatever it takes to stay alive
even if it means turning
cannibalistic
However they are very
camouflaged and hardly anyone
ever messes with a piranha
unless they want to be lunch.
They travel in groups (packs) so
they can attack bigger prey.
They circle around their prey and
then they attack
Physiological Adaptation
They have fast beating hearts to help them
move quickly
 They have extra muscles in their fins for
speed
 They have stronger stomach acids then ours
that helps them digest the meat they eat.


HORRIBLE PETS
Piranhas make horrible pets and here’s
why:
1. Piranhas are very territorial
2. they will not stand another fish in the tank
3. they will fight until they die just like the
beta fish or the Japanese fighting fish


There are 60 species of piranhas
 Piranhas become cannibalistic if under
fed
 The red piranha is the only man-eating
piranha

