Icy Cold: Will it slow down?
Hypothesis :
Salt water will not travel as far through the stalk of celery as the control.
Hypothesis:
Ice water will move more slowly through the stalk of celery than Distilled water.

Set up of Experiment:
Independent Variable: Put 4 Tbsp of NaCl in 150 mL of water with red dye
Control: 150 mL of water with red dye with celery
Place on window sill
Set up of Experiment:
Independent Variable: Put ice in 150 mL of water with red dye until water reaches 0°C
Control: 150 mL of water with red dye with celery
Place on window sill
Results:
The rate of transpiration in the NaCl celery was considerably less than in the control
water. The water moved on 2.2 cm up the length of the celery in the salt water, whereas
it moved up the celery in water to the top, 24 cm.
Results:
The rate of transpiration in the Ice Water celery was equal to the rate of transpiration in the
control water. The water moved 24 cm up the length of both pieces of celery.
However, what was not measured but noted the speed at which the dye moved up the celery was
considerably slower in the ice water than in the control room temperature water.

Conclusions:
And the winner is:
Transpiration will occur faster using room temperature water. With ice water
running a close second in the race of transpiration. Pulling up the end of the
race with a weak finish, is NaCl water!!
