Profile
 Dumka is a district headquarters. It is around 260
kms from the state capital Ranchi. The district is
located at 24°16_N 87°15_E and 24.27°N 87.25°E.
It has an average elevation of 137 metres (449 feet).
It shares its border with Pakur District in east,
Godda district in North, Jamtara district in south
and Deoghar district in West. Dumka town is
located at 24.15oN and 87.14oE.
 The district is well connected with roads and
railways with major cities of Eastern India.

 Dumka is connected primarily through SH 15, SH
17 and SH 18 with cities like Ranchi, Patna and
Kolkata. It is around 260 kms from Ranchi, 258
kms from Kolkata and around 300 kms from
Patna.
Rail
 Dumka is connected with the Howrah – Patna Main
Line from Jasidih Junction. All major trains
travelling to Patna from Howrah stops at Jasidih.
The nearest railhead on the main line close to
Dumka is Jamtara, which is around 60kms away.
Air & BUS
• Air: Nearest airports are Kolkata and Ranchi. Both
these airports are well connected with major
metros of India.
• Buses are the preferred mode of transport and are
run by both government agencies and private
operators. Dumka has good connectivity to it
neighboring district with buses.
 The district has an area of 3716.02 km2 and consists of only
one sub division namely Dumka. Under the Dumka sub
division, there are 10 blocks namely Dumka, Gopikander,
Jama, Jarmundi, Kathikund, Maslia, Ramgarh, Raneshwar,
Shikaripara and Saraiyahat.
 The district have many popular temples like Basukinath,
Sirshanath, Maluti Mandir, Shiv Pahar, Dharamsthana.
Large number of tourists vsist the district from bordering
states like Bengal & Bihar.
 Dumka has a warm-temperate climate, with warm, humid
summers and mild, damp winters. In summer, temperature
reaches to about 32oC to 35oC and it plummets to 15oC to
18oC during winters.
 The district has got good educational infrastructure
