Preparation Program
What Is It?
A relevant, rigorous Program for Accomplished/High
Performing Assistant Principals and District-level
Administrators (Pay Grade 27 and above) who want to
become Principals
Minimum Qualifications for the
Intern Principal program
Assistant Principals may choose to submit an application if they meet
the following minimum qualifications as indicated in SBBC
policy 4002.14:
•
Masters degree (or higher) and certification in Educational
Leadership
•
Completed a minimum of 3 years as an Assistant Principal or an
equivalent district level position as of June 28, 2014.
•
Received “Satisfactory”, “Highly Effective” or “Effective”
performance evaluations from the past three consecutive years
•
Documentation of completion of the Interim Assistant Program
2014-2015 Intern Principal
Program
Focuses on the development and application of skills
and knowledge in the Florida Principal Leadership
Standards (2011) and the Broward School Assessment
for School Administrators (BASA).
One-Year Program with mid-year and exit criteria

Writing Prompt. Complete the prompt in Microsoft Word, 12 point font, no more than three
pages. Save your work as: Last Name_First Name Wpt
Scan your 2011, 2012, 2013 Year-End Performance Appraisals. Save appraisals in PDF format as:

Scan your Certificate of Completion of Interim Assistant Principal Program. Save in PDF
format as: Last Name_First Name IAP
Scan your Florida DOE Certificate indicating Educational Leadership. Save in PDF format as:
Last Name_First Name Cert
Type/update your Resume based upon the current Florida Principal Leadership Standards (2011).
Save it in Microsoft Word as: Last Name_First Name Resume
Email the following documents as attachments to one email via cab to Intern Principal 2014:
Application for District/School Based Administrative Positions, Writing Prompt, Performance
Appraisals, Certificate of Completion of Interim AP Program, 2011-2013 Performance
Appraisals,, FLDOE Certificate, and Resume. Please include in the Subject field Last Name_First
Name IPP Application. Applicants with no access to CAB are to submit the above documents to

Leadership Profile Form
Principals of qualified candidates receive and complete
The Leadership Profile Form based on the New Florida
Principal Leadership Standards and email it back to
The Office of Talent Development (Ruth James) by
March 7, 2014.
Forms will be evaluated to determine Phase I interview
process entrance.
Phase I Interview Process
(April 1-April 4, 2014)
Those who are qualified to enter the Phase I
Interview Process will:
*Complete a Leadership profile assessment
(Profile XT)
*Conduct an Instructional Leadership
presentation (Domain 2)
*Create an “On Demand” writing sample
(Domain 3)
*Participate in an interview with Phase I panel
consisting of Principals, Teacher Leaders, and
Institute of Higher Education Professors.
Phase II Interview Process
(April 9-April 11, 2014)
Qualified candidates will be invited to a final
interview with:
The Office of Talent Development Staff
Principals
OSPA Directors
Notification
Selected Interns will be notified by April 21, 2014
Schedule of 2014-2015 Intern Principal Preparation
Program will be given by The Office of Talent
Development via email
All program documents will be discussed at the initial
session (date: TBA)
Your Building Principal and Director will also receive
notification of your placement into the program

Preparation Program
Applications accepted Tuesday,
February 11, 2014– Friday,
February 21, 2014 by 5:00 p.m.
Intern Principal Preparation Program Highlights
Professional readings and current research
Monthly cohort sessions and activities with peers and
mentors
Professional Learning Team Meetings to include Building
Principal, Instructional Cadre Director, and Mentor
Principal (minimum of 4 per year)
PLT meetings aligned with the BASA evaluation tool and
the Florida Principal Leadership Standards.
Job-embedded competencies and reflections aligned to
the four Domains of the Florida Principal Leadership
Standards completed at the school site.
Student Achievement Research Project
Intern Principal Preparation Program
Highlights
Additional professional learning aligned to College and
Career Readiness, Marzano’s Instructional Framework
and the Broward Assessment for School Administrators
(BASA).
Leadership assessments for participants. (Val Ed)
Successful completers of the Intern Principal Program
are eligible to apply for Level II Principal certification.
Program participants demonstrate their leadership skills
to a panel of District staff and representatives of Higher
Education to complete the program.
