He would have to go down to the coal mines. Though he did not want to, he wanted to go to college. After the bell rang Sonny noticed that Dorothy was still sobbing and that she went straight out of class to Vernon Holbrook, a senior linebacker. Homer told Jim that he will go to college and he would pay for it. Jim then goes on to say that he wanted to play college football, and that the college teams would now never notice him.
